USB-A connects to the host; a DB9 terminal adapter or one-to-two DB9 Y cable separates CAN1 and CAN2.

KH-UCANFD-LITE-X2U connects two CAN / CAN FD networks to a computer or industrial PC through USB-A. Both channels share one DB9 connector and can be separated with a terminal adapter or one-to-two DB9 Y cable.

The adapter provides 1500 V electrical isolation, up to 12 Mbit/s in the CAN FD data phase, 64-byte CAN FD payloads and backward compatibility with CAN 2.0A/B. Both channels can operate at full bus load simultaneously.

With CANmeleon device manager, the same hardware can install protocol applications for different driver and software ecosystems. Standard SocketCAN, python-can, C/C++, C# and Python workflows are also supported.

ISO and Non-ISO CAN FD

ISO CAN FD and the earlier Non-ISO CAN FD format are not fully compatible. All nodes on a bus must use the same mode. KH-UCANFD-LITE-X2U supports both modes.

Ensure the adapter, target nodes and host software use the same CAN FD mode, arbitration rate, data rate and sample points.

DB9 Pinout

CAN1 uses pins 2 / 3 / 7 and CAN2 uses pins 1 / 6 / 8.

User Button

• Short press: cycles termination states 00 → 01 → 10 → 11 → 00.
• Press for about 3 seconds: switches firmware / protocol application. Keep USB power stable during switching.

The state is displayed as RES2 RES1. A lit yellow RES indicator means the corresponding 120 Ω resistor is enabled.

1. Connect the integrated USB-A cable and wait for the operating system to identify the device.
2. Connect CAN1 and CAN2 through the DB9 terminal adapter or Y cable. Verify CAN_H, CAN_L and GND.
3. Install CANmeleon device manager on Windows or the KH-UCANFD Linux SDK on Linux.
4. Select the required protocol application and wait for the device to reconnect.
5. Configure CAN / CAN FD mode, arbitration rate, data rate and sample points to match the target network.
6. Enable a 120 Ω termination resistor only when the adapter is located at the corresponding end of the bus.
7. Validate one channel with a known frame before enabling the second channel.

Troubleshooting

• Device not detected: reconnect to another USB port and check the device manager or kernel log.
• No frames: verify CAN_H / CAN_L, ground, bit rate, CAN FD mode and termination.
• Error frames or Bus-Off: stop transmission and check wiring, duplicate termination and timing parameters.
• Application not available immediately after switching: wait for USB re-enumeration before opening the target software.
