CANmeleon Device Manager User Guide
CANmeleon device manager is a Windows desktop tool for Kunhong CANmeleon / UCANFD-G2 devices. It helps users connect devices, inspect device information, manage installed applications, update application releases, update the device manager itself, and handle basic recovery workflows.
When To Use It
- Connect a device for the first time and confirm that Windows can detect it.
- Check device model, application version, manager protocol version, bootloader version, channel count, and application slots.
- Install, replace, or update device applications.
- Switch the running application or uninstall applications that are no longer needed.
- Check application release updates and device manager software updates.
- Handle devices that enumerate as an update drive.

Installation Steps
- Download
CANmeleon-device-manager-win64.zip. - Extract the zip package to a fixed directory.
- Run
CANmeleon-device-manager.exe. - Connect the CANmeleon / UCANFD-G2 device to a USB port.
TIP
Do not run the executable directly inside the zip viewer. Extract the full package first so that the updater, driver DLLs, and bundled files stay in the expected directory layout.
Quick Start
1. Select A Device
After startup, the tool opens the Select device page. The device table shows the detected devices and their status:

Ready | The device can be opened | Select it and click Connect |
Recovery mode | The device is already in update-drive mode | Click Open recovery or reconnect the device |
Driver not installed | Windows cannot find a usable driver | Install the driver and click Refresh |
Unavailable | The device is busy or cannot be opened | Close other software that may be using it |
If the device is not listed automatically, click Refresh. For plug-and-unplug testing, enable Auto scan and choose a scan interval.
2. Connect
Select a device with the Ready status, then click Connect. After a successful connection, the main window opens.
If connection fails, check:
- Whether the USB cable and port are reliable.
- Whether another CAN tool or debugger is using the device.
- Whether Windows Device Manager reports a driver problem.
- Whether the selected device supports the CANmeleon management workflow.
3. Read Device Information
Open the Device page and click Refresh info. Common fields include:
Device: current device name.PID: product identification.Application version: currently running application version.Manager protocol: device management interface version.Bootloader version: bootloader version.Device type,Channels,Application slots, andInstalled application.
Application Management
The Application management page shows the device application slots and the available application catalog.
Refresh Slots
- Open
Application management. - Click
Refresh. - Check the
Installed applications on devicearea.
A slot can be shown as:
Running: the application currently running on the device.Empty: no application is installed in this slot.Disabled: this slot is not available.
Install Or Replace An Application
- Select an available slot in
Installed applications on device. - Click
Change/update app. - In the dialog, choose the target release and application card.
- Confirm the selection and return to
Application management. - Review the pending changes, then click
Apply changes. - Wait for the update to finish and reconnect the device if it re-enumerates.
WARNING
Do not unplug the device or close the tool while an application update is running. The device may disconnect and enumerate again after the update; this is expected.
Update Installed Applications
If the local application release contains newer versions for the applications already installed on the device, use Update installed apps:
- Connect the device and refresh the slot list.
- Select the target firmware package version in
Application Catalog. - Click
Update installed apps. - The tool prepares the pending updates that are valid for the device.
- Click
Apply changes, wait for the device to restart, and reconnect.
If the tool reports that the updatable slots are not contiguous, update the slots one by one as prompted.
Run Or Uninstall Applications
Run app: switches the device to the selected slot. The device may re-enumerate and require reconnecting.Uninstall: removes the application from the selected slot.Uninstall all apps: removes all maintenance-safe application entries. The device skips the currently running application.
Refresh the slot list after uninstalling applications.
Application Catalog And Release Updates
Application Catalog displays available application releases, application cards, and install status:
Installable: this application can be installed on the current device.Not applicable: this application does not match the current device or state.Check required: read device information before the tool can decide.
If no local application release is available, the tool attempts to download the latest release. You can also click Check update or Re-download in the application release update area.
Device Operations
Mode Switch
On the Device page, if the connected device supports multiple modes, choose a target mode in the Mode switch area and click Switch mode. The device may re-enumerate after switching; reconnect it when prompted.
Termination Resistor
Some hardware supports software-controlled termination resistors. Confirm that the current hardware supports this feature before changing settings:
- Open the
Devicepage and findTermination resistor. - Click
Refresh status. - Adjust the channel settings according to the bus wiring.
- Click
Apply settings.
Do not use this feature on hardware that does not support controllable termination resistors.
Enter Upgrade Mode
Clicking Enter upgrade disconnects the current session and enumerates the device as an update drive. Use this only for update or recovery workflows, and make sure no communication or update task is running.
Software Updates
Application Release Update
Application release updates provide newer device application packages. The tool checks automatically on startup, and you can check manually:
- Connect the device.
- Check the application release update message in
Application management. - Click
Check updateorRe-download. - After downloading, select the application changes and click
Apply changes.
Device Manager Update
The device manager can update itself:

- Open the
Softwarepage. - In
Device manager update, clickCheck update. - If a newer version is available, click
Download and restart to install. - The tool closes, starts the updater, replaces the files, and restarts.
Device Recovery
When a device is already in update-drive mode, the device list shows Recovery mode. You can:
- Unplug and reconnect the device first to see whether it returns to normal operation.
- If Kunhong technical support provides a recovery application package, click
Open recovery, choose the update drive and the recovery package, then clickWrite recovery package.
After writing the recovery package, wait for the device to restart, return to the device list, and scan again.
Troubleshooting
Device Not Found
- Confirm that the USB cable supports data transfer.
- Try another USB port and click
Refresh. - Check Windows Device Manager for unknown devices or driver errors.
- Close other software that may be using the device.
Driver Not Installed
Install the required driver, reconnect the device, and click Refresh. If the problem remains, check the device status and driver provider in Windows Device Manager.
Connection Failed
This is usually caused by device occupation, driver problems, or an unsupported device state. Close other tools, reconnect the device, and try again.
Application Catalog Is Empty
- Confirm that the PC can access the release server.
- Click
Check updateorRe-download. - For offline environments, use the application release package provided by Kunhong technical support.
Application Shows Not Applicable
Installability depends on the device model, device state, and application release. Click Refresh info and Refresh first. If it still shows Not applicable, choose a matching application or contact technical support.
Device Disconnects After Update
Application installation, mode switching, and upgrade mode can make the device re-enumerate. Wait a few seconds, reconnect the device if needed, return to Select device, and click Refresh.
